One of the biggest collections we sell here at Soren’s house is made by Liewood. And for good reason; This eco-friendly children’s brand, founded in Copenhagen in 2015 by Anne Marie Lie Nielsen, offers a huge variety of stylish children’s wear, toys, dinnerware, furniture, weaning essentials, baby essentials & so much more.
Our love for Liewood began when we learnt their ambition: to advocate slow living – creating products that will last for generations. What more could we want?!
What does Liewood mean?
In an interview with Liberty, Anna Marie Lie Nielsen revealed the history behind the name;
“My last name Lie and my previous business partner’s name is Skov – which is the Danish word for ‘wood’.”
What do we know about Liewood’s manufacturing?
When we researched Liewood manufacturing process, we were happy to hear about their uncompromising & ethical approach. The fact that they use GOTS cotton to produce their textile products is very important to us, as this means that the processing, manufacturing, packaging & labelling of the fabric is all done so to an internationally recognised organic textile standard.
If a textile item is made from GOTS cotton it means we can be sure it is sustainable; a requirement for GOTS is that the fibre has to be organically produced (which means no artificial fertilisers or pesticides are used) & any chemicals that are used, have to meet a strict criteria for environmental & human health.
Where is Liewood made?
Liewood products are designed in Denmark, with quintessentially nordic designs, accompanied with nordic ethics.
Their clothing & accessories are made at a GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified supplier in India.
The rest of their products are developed under controlled, safe & fair conditions by skilled suppliers, many in China, meaning the employees can work in a safe & fair environment.
Liewood’s Materials:
A large amount of Liewood products such as the tableware sets, are made from 100% BPA Free Silicone. One of the main benefits of creating toys, dinnerware etc from silicone is durability; this means the products you are buying will last for years. This is a huge advantage when creating kids toys especially, as they undergo a large amount of wear & tear. Buying an item made from silicone is a brilliant alternative to plastic as you can guarantee you will be able to pass it down from generation to generation, thus creating less waste. Another advantage is the fact its so easy to clean & sterilise, a must have when children are involved!!
Liewood also favour 100% beechwood for their wooden products, such as the baby play gyms & puzzle boxes. Some of the benefits of using beechwood in the manufacture of children’s toys are that it is hard, tough & strong; which is just what you need with exploring hands & mouths around! Beechwood is considered one of the more sustainable trees as it grows fast, making it easily replaceable.

Wardrobe:
Each year Liewood fill our children’s wardrobes with season appropriate items; sandals, swimwear, sun-hats & ponchos in the summer, & wellies, gloves, rain suits & balaclavas in the winter. All made with children in mind, with comfortable fabrics & easy fastenings. This years outwear came made from 100% recycled polyester which we absolutely love, and our planet will love too.
